The Role of Public Diplomacy for the Stability and Security of the Danube Region

Abstract

Objectives: The main objective of this paper is the underline the significant role of public diplomacy and its integral part cultural diplomacy for economic prosperity, political stability and overall secure and sustainable development of the Danube region. Prior Work: The author has presented a large scale study on the security issues in European context, reflected in his PhD dissertation. Approach: Exploration of the theoretical points of view and several case studies about public and cultural diplomacy and their interconnection with the territorial security and stability. Results: Through the practical results in the paper is confirmed that there is a direct link between the economic and political stability of the Danube region and the efforts of public and cultural diplomacy. Implications: The paper can attract the attention of academics, stakeholders, national and local authorities on the potential of public and cultural diplomacy. Value: The added value of the paper is in confirming through the examples from the practice the increasing role of the soft power not only in the international relations of the contemporary countries but also for guaranteeing their stability and security.
