Work Values in the Danube Region: Comparative study of 6 Countries
Last modified: 2017-06-05
Abstract
Objectives: The goal of this paper is to determine the similarities and differences of work values in 6 countries along the Danube river basin – Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Germany and Austria.
Prior Work: The analysis is based on results from the European Social Survey and European Values Study.
Approach: The main research method includes representative surveys. Results are analysed using the intercultural communication theoretical paradigm.
Results: Results show that the concepts of work values such as achievement, labour and perseverence are considered key factors for both individual and social development in all studied countries. The concepts are defined by the local cultural value systems and serve an important role in individuals’ socialization.
Implications: Results could be used for future comparative research between countries along the Danube, as well as comparing these notions as a whole in order to determine individual motivations in different cultural contexts.
Value: This paper’s results could be used as guidance for creating problem-solving practices in education, business and entrepreneurship, based on cultural values.
