Abstract

Objectives International projects with teams in the virtual environment (IPTVEs) show much higher levels of risk compared to traditional ones, as well as a much higher degree of risk complexity. In order to meet these challenges, the risk manager must have the appropriate skills in accordance with the changes that have occurred in the projects and their environment. The objective of this paper is to provide an overview of the main challenges of a risk manager within IPTVEs, as well as a model of his suitable profile. Prior Work The paper is based on the previous empirical research regarding the skills of the project team members in the virtual environment. Approach The methodology used for this paper is the bibliographic research within recognized databases. Results The literature review revealed that the most important skills are integrated in the category of soft skills and they include intercultural communication, collaborative and analytical skills. Implications This paper could contribute to increase the IPTVEs risk management performance and represents the starting point for conducting empirical research to validate the skills identified as mandatory for a successful risk manager within an IPTVE.
