Abstract

The development of AI technology generates a series of controversies among writers and readers. Literature, implicitly creation, is at the beginning of a revolutionary transformation. Scholars, authors, and the public have found that this advanced machine learning and data processing technology can influence literature in many ways, including generating new content, interpreting and analyzing artistic works, and creating new experiences for audiences. Today, machine learning algorithms can be trained to create short texts, poetry or even movie scripts. Tomorrow, we'll probably subscribe to apps with AI-generated texts. We could read literature written by AI: if AI technology is based on existing data, how can it create something original, innovative?  This is the starting point of the present analysis on the AI phenomenon and its impact on the literature space. Should novelists and poets worry about losing their jobs to AI? Will we end up reading books written by robots in the distant future? And if so, what will they look like?  The critic Nicolae Manolescu advocates, in an interview on this topic, for the idea that no matter how sophisticated artificial intelligence becomes, it will not replace human intelligence. In other words, new technologies will not be able to replace the human mind, especially in the realm of literature.
