Abstract

Training the professional ethics of health professionals in the context of communicating bad news is a priority in contemporary medical education, where knowledge needs to be complemented by ethical values and communicative skills. Communicating difficult news - such as severe diagnoses, guarded prognoses or irreversible events - requires an integrated pedagogical approach, centered on the development of empathy, responsibility and professionalism. Among the most effective pedagogical strategies are: case-based learning, simulations, guided critical reflection, clinical mentoring, and formative feedback to develop ethical behavior. Also, strategies focusing on experiential and dialogic learning - such as motivational interviewing, ethical debates or interdisciplinary case studies - allow the formation of a responsible and conscious attitude towards patient suffering. The integration of these strategies into the medical curriculum fosters empathic and ethically grounded communication in line with the ethical values of the profession. By capitalizing on appropriate pedagogical strategies, medical education ensures the transmission of knowledge and the training of professionals capable of communicating with empathy, discernment and professionalism at critical moments in the medical process.
