Abstract

We live in a society with accelerated transformations that require the development of digital competencies starting from primary education. According to key documents such as the European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp) and the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027, the European Union emphasizes that digital literacy is becoming essential within schools, not only for technology use but also for the development of critical thinking, online safety, and responsible communication. Thus, by adopting a digital approach in the instructional-educational process, schools prepare future responsible citizens who meet European requirements.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the importance of digital education in primary education from the perspective of alignment with European requirements. Digital teaching activities adapted to the psycho-pedagogical characteristics of young schoolchildren and learning styles are exemplified, targeting those dimensions of different types of intelligence, experienced "at the grassroots" together with students. It highlights the importance of innovative methods such as "gamification" activities for the development of algorithmic thinking (Kahoot, Wordwall, Quiver, etc.), digital storytelling, interactive digital projects (created in Canva, Book Creator, Padlet, etc.), online safety education exercises (responsible browsing, recognizing fake news), and initiation into simple programming concepts (Scratch Junior, Bee-Bot, QR codes) with the aim of stimulating school motivation and active participation. It also emphasizes the importance of immediate feedback provided through the use of digital applications.

In the context of European curricular reforms, the development of digital competence represents not only a challenge but an essential responsibility of the Romanian school. The digital approach to the teaching process becomes a necessity, representing a solid foundation for the future of the European student.
