Seaweed - from Scientific Research to Entrepreneurship
Last modified: 2021-05-12
Abstract
According to a study on key competences for continuous development, entrepreneurship was identified as the seventh key competence, defined by the European Union. Entrepreneurial competence can be described as the ability to identify opportunities, to capitalize on ideas, to present initiative for their implementation, skill in planning and managing projects to achieve goals. Entrepreneurship is confusingly considered to belong exclusively to economic activities, business start-ups and business development. But society is in a continuous and uninterrupted development and among young people there is a focus on expanding skills and knowledge, the accumulation of information in new fields and the desire for new experiences, such as financial freedom. Thus, the fields in which young people are encouraged to capitalize on their entrepreneurial skills are becoming more and more varied. Scientific research does not detract from this idea, as a result of which the results can be used in this direction. With the help of funding programs, young people can capitalize on their research results in a successful business. In Romania there are areas whose market is unsaturated. Personal scientific research, combined with the idea of entrepreneurship, led to the conclusion that Romania has untapped resources. In the context of sustainable development, the paper proposes the recovery of seaweed waste in the pulp and paper industry. The valorification of the seaweed waste will give life to a new product, which aims to remove heavy metals from industrial wastewater.
