The Mainstream of the Technology Industry Model as Workforce Sustainability - Transformational Leadership and Creativity

Abstract

Primarily described as a product of globalization, the term sustainability was reported as an incentive to be stemming the decline of natural resources, with acute consequences to economic development, environment and societal harmony. Once associated to the means of understanding theory and practice of organizational culture, sustainability became a “triple bottom line” composite of people, planet and profit. Under an emerging consensus on the theoretical and practical backgrounds, the how to understand for achieving sustainability is still elusive. The challenge for industries and organizations persists, since the interconnectedness that makes sustainability a difficult goal to achieve, declared the emergence of new variables to be considered; workforce sustainability is a new concept that punts emphasis not only on the corporate practices in regard with outputs, but brings into equation the equity and well-being of the employees. The current research stresses the importance of designing an assessing instrument that would bridge technology industry workforce innovation, theory and practice. A quantitative approach with a 26 items online survey was used for data collecting; 174 middle and top management respondents were considered. Results will show that the eight dimensions of the workforce sustainability specific to the technology industry show the central role of both transformational leadership and creativity.
