Abstract

Developing countries are known as economies with an important level of informality, considering the favorable macroeconomic context generated by various factors such as the institutional framework, regulatory capacity, structural factors, financial context, or the level of qualification of the workers. In addition, related to the same category of countries, a high level of environmental damage is observed, the quality of the environment being closely related to the mode and capacity of regulation of this field and the level at which compliance with these regulations is a goal both at the microeconomic and at the macroeconomic level. The attitude towards these regulations, in the broader context of the economic development objectives, is closely linked to structural and institutional factors, which also determine the level of the informal sector. In this context, political actions are needed to target these two phenomena, which are correlated at a certain level.
