Abstract

Rapid urbanization necessitates significant resource inflows and outflows. The building industry is one of the primary sources of trash and consumers of raw materials. Construction waste constitutes significant deposits due to its amount and potential for recovery, necessitating effective action by bringing together various stakeholders to fulfill the goals of a circular economy. Understanding current research on urban metabolism, deposits, and recovery techniques is essential. In particular, this article addresses how local authorities support circular economy initiatives in the building sector and what opportunities and challenges they encounter. This article aims to investigate the role of local authorities in planning strategies to facilitate a circular economy. The study's methodology involved conducting semi-structured interviews with persons in charge of circular economy initiatives within municipal governments leading the way in this field in metropolitan India. The findings emphasize the value of community involvement in putting circular economy principles into practice in the building industry. Recognizing the many stakeholders and their difficulties in creating an operational framework is crucial.
