Tensioning Systems for Mechanical Belt Drives

Abstract

This paper presents main methods used to ensure proper tensioning of belt drives. Due to the fact that, of all mechanical transmissions, the belt drive is used within numerous factories in order to transmit the movement over a long distance, to move different part from one working station to another, as well as within vehicle transmission, it is considered necessary to ensure proper belt tensioning to avoid possible faults during operation period. Such problems could lead to shut off the manufacturing lines, or worse, it can endanger the working personell. Therefore, within this paper there are presented main tensioning methods, as well as different ways to measure and determine the value of belt tension.
