Abstract

The concept of social innovation is not new. E. Durkheim and M. Weber stressed the importance of social innovation in the creation of social order, especially in the context of social and technological change (Godin, 2012).

Social innovations can be defined as new ideas (products, services, and models) that simultaneously meet social needs (more effectively than alternatives) and create new social relationships or collaborations. The European Union puts a strong focus on social innovation in its policies.

The Europe 2020 Strategy is largely counting on social Innovations; a particularly important programme is Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) programme. Through analyzing EaSI’s statistics, the article sheds light on the quality and sustainable employment, combating social exclusion and poverty and improving working conditions.
