Abstract

The social implications of an aging population are becoming increasingly apparent in many urban societies.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the EU programme dedicated to social enterprises and the national policies aimed at active aging mechanisms. The implementing of active aging measures have social and economical effects. The dimensions that define active aging, established in 2012 through Active Aging Index laid the foundation of the formulation of social policies and European strategies that propose actions and concrete measures regarding the employment of elders, the level of involvement and participation in society, the keeping of independent, healthy and secure living. The research sets the way in which the concept of active aging evolved, from the measures of implementation to the concrete results that have been obtained in the EU in the last 10 years.
