Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this paper is to interpret the status of implementation of the UN goals for sustainable development in the countries from the Danube region focusing on gender equality. A snapshot of the indicators related to gender equality is presented on the basis of secondary data, such as: number of women on leadership positions, gender-based discrimination, societal attitudes towards the Istanbul Convention and others. Prior Work: Theoretical and experimental research of the authors in the field, e.g. Istanbul Convention. Approach: Theoretical review of the UN goals for sustainable development and highlighting the impact of the gender equality in a global context. Secondary data analysis of existing statistics. Results: In the Danube countries still exist some cases of gender inequality in the labour market, distribution of the leadership positions, work payments, qualification of some professions as masculine or feminine, etc. Implications: The paper can stimulate a larger discussion in the scientific circles about the reasons for existing gender inequalities nowadays. Value: The study identifies possible explanation of the gender inequalities on the basis of the cultural specificities of the explored countries.
