Vasile Voiculescu and the Danubian Miraculous
Last modified: 2024-06-27
Abstract
Prolific and poetic writer, Vasile Voiculescu, a religious spirit, and scientist, at the same time, doctor, and author of a folk medicine textbook, was fascinated by the miraculous Christian and dependent on him, by everything that does not fit into common logic. The aquatic universe, which he approaches in several prose texts, is populated with fabulous beings, with which man is initiated into a special relationship. This is the case of the short story “The Fisherman Amin”, a person with ichthyological features, who tries to save his totemic ancestor from the trap in which the fishermen caught him. He fails to save him, but his death coincides with a return to the fabulous universe of the Danube.
