Abstract

Literary works have a special role in the elucidation of a nation’s past and present, in the cultivation of the noblest rules of conduct, in a continuous furthering of all what is beautiful and holy.

Literature is a primary component of our nation’s cultural patrimony. It assimilates and systematizes, recording by the word’s artistic means a certain experience of knowledge.

In accordance with the wide spectrum of literature as an art form, it is essential to increase interest to the 21st century young students for a deeper approach to reading, thus contributing to their option for such qualities as generosity, wisdom, patriotism, responsibility to our country, nature, culture, etc.

It is also to be taken into account the following fact: one of the major objectives in studying the Romanian language in academic institutions refers to cultivation of speech to the learners. One could succeed in it namely by reading as a normal practice, by the analysis of the language’s expressiveness in a literary text.

The accomplishment of the above purposes would be possible only when a teacher himself is passionate about literature. What is more: it is necessary for a teacher to have knowledge in psychology of ages and aquire experience in selecting suitable readings to these criteria, as well as in recommending them in various attractive forms.
