Mental Health of Youth in Transition: Psychological Challenges in the Context of European Educational Convergence
Last modified: 2025-06-16
Abstract
Abstract: The mental health of students and young people in educational and professional transition represents a major concern in the current context of European educational convergence. Higher education reforms (such as the Bologna Process) and increased academic mobility have brought benefits, but also new psychological challenges for young people, including anxiety, performance stress, adaptation difficulties and uncertainties regarding professional identity. This paper, based on a literature review from the last decade, analyzes the factors that contribute to the emergence of these mental health problems and highlights the psychoeducational support strategies proposed by recent research. The results emphasize the importance of developing resilience, social support, and institutional support programs (including counseling and guidance) to facilitate the adaptation and psychological well-being of young people during periods of educational transition. The paper thus provides a comprehensive understanding of the psychological challenges faced by young people in the European Higher Education Area and of the good practices that can be implemented to ameliorate them.
