Trends in the Development of Inland Shipping Law
Last modified: 2025-06-13
Abstract
Inland shipping law is evolving to support sustainable and efficient water transport.
The main conclusions of my research are as follows:
The integration of inland waterway transport as an important link into the passenger and freight transport chain is being implemented in accordance with the European Transport Network (TEN-T) development programme for the period up to 2050.
The sustainability of inland waterway transport, in particular as part of large urban transport hubs, is ensured through the implementation of special programmes: Navigation and Inland Waterway Action and Development in Europe (NAiaDES III) - Boosting future-proof European inland waterway transport.
The EU-funded PLATINA4Action project supports the implementation and evaluation of the Action Plan of NAIADES III. The project brings together expertise and stakeholders in European inland waterway transport, building on the knowledge, network and findings of project PLATINA3.
