Last modified: 2025-06-18
Abstract
This study investigates innovative methods for the optional study of English-language texts in rap style within specialized secondary schools. Recognizing rap as a dynamic form of contemporary linguistic and cultural expression, the author explores its pedagogical potential in enhancing students’ motivation, linguistic competence, and cultural awareness. The paper outlines theoretical foundations from sociocultural and communicative approaches to language learning and examines how rap lyrics can be used to develop listening, reading, and speaking skills. The methodology focuses on lyric analysis, creative translation, rhythmic reading, and student-authored raps, all framed within project-based and learner-centered models. The study concludes that incorporating rap into the optional English curriculum enriches language acquisition and fosters student engagement by connecting educational content with youth culture and real-world communication.
