Abstract

The article deals with the Kupala rituals of Ukrainians, Bulgarians and Romanians living in the Ukrainian Danube region. The main focus is on the historical and genetic features of the Bessarabian folklore tradition. The research analyses the most common and, at the same time, the most typical rituals of the Kupala holiday for the inhabitants of the villages of Southern Bessarabia. The comparative analysis of the main elements of the Kupala rituals of the Bessarabian population makes it possible to assert that the existence of the components of this holiday today in the Ukrainian Danube region is characterised by local variability of individual rituals both in structural and formal expression and in multifunctional semantics.
