Establishment of an Integrated Cultural Identity within Bulgarian-Romanian Cross-Border Region along the Danube River

Abstract
The paper presents the empirical results from a study carried out in the process of implementation of the project BRAINS /Bulgarian-Romanian Area Identities: Neighbourhood Study/ under the Romania-Bulgaria Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013. The main goal of this project was to explore the potential for the establishment of an integrated identity within the frames of the Bulgarian-Romanian cross-border region along the Danube River. The results from the study demonstrate the attitudes of the citizens towards their cross-border neighbor as well as the necessary prerequisites for building a shared identity which can serve as a driving force for the development of the cross-border region.
