The Role of Cultural Diplomacy for Intensifying the Cross-Border Cooperation within Danube Region

Abstract
The work presents an unconventional look at the opportunities for intensifying the cross-border cooperation within Danube macro-region through applying the means of cultural diplomacy. On the basis of the theoretical considerations about cultural diplomacy as a “soft power” the paper presents its impact on contemporary international relations as well as its ability to serve as a driving force of the cross-border cooperation in the Danube area. A special focus is put on the instruments of the cultural diplomacy, namely familiarizing with traditions, cultural heritage and modern achievements of the communities that inhabit the Danube territory with the aim to shorten the sociocultural distance between them and to overcome the mental barriers.
