Abstract

One of the important results of the Eastern crisis 1875-1878 was а change of the political map of the Balkan and the recognition of new states, including Romania. The declaration of independence of Romania, the participation of Romanian troops in the war against Turkey and the territorial dispute between Romania and Russia over South Bessarabia led to the actualization of the Romanian question in European diplomacy. The policy of Romania in the final stage of the Eastern crisis 1875-1878 and the process of solution the Romanian question at the Congress of Berlin in 1878 were analyzed in the article. The author focuses on the deterioration of Russian-Romanian relations as a result of the emergence of territorial disputes over South Bessarabia.
