Latin Language in Gregory Skovoroda Epistolary Heritage

Abstract

The article deals with the linguistic personality of one of the largest thinkers of the XVIII century Gregory Savich Skovoroda (1722-1794). The functioning of Latin language in his epistolary heritage is analyzed. The attention is drown to the the role and the value of Latin language in the reflection of moral and ethical principles of Ukrainian poet-philosopher. The general importance of Latin language as the important component of his creative work is also argued. It was shown that the use of the Latin language is due to pragmatic, socio-cultural, psychological factors.
