Harmonization of Romanian and Bulgarian national security systems with the European security system

Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this work is to reflect the general issues connected with the national defence systems and national security policies of Bulgaria and Romania, as well as to reveal the efforts of the two countries to harmonize these systems with the European standards and requirements. Prior Work: A dissertation dedicated to the security issues in a European context. Approach: Comparative analysis of the Bulgarian and Romanian security systems and observation of the current achievements of the two countries in the process of European integration in the area of security. Results: Identification of the similarities and differences in the Bulgarian and Romanian security systems. Recommendations about the necessary steps and actions which have to be undertaken from the point of view of European normative basis and regulations. Implications: The paper results can serve as a preliminary basis for various comparative studies in the field of security. Value: The study is the first of its kind comparing the Bulgarian and Romanian security systems.
