Abstract

The international importance of the Danube River, part of Europe's natural heritage, is also evidenced by the concern that the Danube Protected Areas will maintain and restore the most valuable habitats of this international river, protecting it for future generations.

Multiple initiatives, especially within the European Union but not only, are based on cooperation between the riverine countries and with other countries in the Danube area.

This study highlights the state of implementation of the provisions of the multiple declarations and programmatic documents adopted on this theme as well as possible future approaches.
