Abstract

The scientific reservations of the biosphere are set up in order to reconcile the conservation of biodiversity and human activity through the sustainable use of natural resources. The case of the "Lower Prut" reserve is used to formulate critical reflections on the designation process, the management objective and the integration of this structure in the patterns of community life. The empirically collected data aims to highlight the residents' perceptions on the benefits and consequences of setting up the reservation. The study discusses strategies for accommodating the community life patterns in accordance with the limitations imposed by the establishment of the biosphere reserve.
