Abstract

The analysis of storm surges and currents in order to quantify the vulnerability phenomena in seaports can contribute to the risk management of maritime navigation in the western Black Sea. In the Black Sea, numerical simulations were used to extend the CMEMS (WAM) model, all information being accessible.Subsequently, several downscalling services were developed in the Black Sea basin, on the Romanian coast and in the main port areas of Constanta and Midia (http://iswim.rmri.ro/). In the present study, specific environmental conditions to the Mangalia port area were analyzed. The wavefields were considered for a normal/medium hydrodynamic regime, taking into account the wave distributions calculated using the CMEMS numerical model, downscaled by the iSWIM system, applied in Mangalia port basin.
