The future of interest rates in Albania – What is the Albanian Central Bank excluding from the analysis?
Last modified: 2021-06-11
Abstract
As part of the Monetary Policy of the Central Bank, the interest rates during the after crises years have dropped at their lowest in Albanian banking history since year 2003 when the earliest data are published on the Bank of Albania (BoA) website.
Hence, as one of the variables accounting for influencing other macro and microeconomic indicators, it is important to evaluate why cyclical factors have driven it close to zero.
This paper aims to analyze through the data panel and a philosophical approach some of the factors that might influence the rising of interest rates in the future.
With government debt at the highest level so far, and potentially very high level for years to come, treasury bonds’ market could confront the Albanian Central Bank with probably a different monetary policy management of what we have witnessed so far.
